Community Involvement

Via Credit Union is part of the communities where our members and staff live and work! Through various community events, ViaCU strives to make a difference. Below includes a partial listing of events ViaCU participates in each year:
CASA Sand Sculpture Artfest
ViaCU participates in the annual CASA fundraiser by creating a sand sculpture. This year Iris Brunner, Michelle Peterson, Karli Martin and Kim Speidel created Piggy Banks, our Coindexter Kid's Club mascot.
CSA Go Arts, Go Karts
ViaCU participates in the annual Community School of the Arts fundraiser by competing in a Go Kart race. Veteran driver, Karli Martin, just kept winning, putting her in the final race!
Corporate Challenge
Staff competes with other local businesses in various activities! The Coindexter Kid's Club mascot, Piggy Banks, attended many events as well!
Financial Literacy
Staff teaches students to prepare for their future by teaching financial literacy through the Junior Achievement economics program and classroom visits.
Indiana Wesleyan University Telesale
ViaCU is proud to operate the phone banks at the IWU Telesale every year. Money raised through the Telesale goes directly to student scholarships.
Kids in Need Foundation Teacher Grants
In 2014, five grants totaling over $2,000 was awarded to local teachers to fund innovative classroom projects. Grant winners competed with teachers from across the country for an opportunity to make their projects come alive in the classroom.
Nurse's Aid
Staff and members make donations to the Nurse's Aid program through Jean Days and by purchasing fundraiser items. In 2014, ViaCU was able to provide area school nurses with over $2,000 worth of items such as lice shampoo, clothing and personal hygiene items! In addition, an anonymous member donated homemade hats and gloves.
ViaCU enjoys participating at small town parades throughout the year.
Salvation Army Angel Tree
Via Credit Union President/CEO, John McIntyre, requested staff not purchase Christmas gifts for him. Instead, he asked they select children to buy gifts for. "I know that we have a generous and caring staff, but I was totally overwhelmed when I learned that over $1,000 had been raised and delivered to the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. I was expecting to provide for three or four children but if $50 is spent per child, that's 20 children that will receive a gift this Christmas that may not have otherwise." said McIntyre. "Their gift to others was the perfect gift for me".
Samaritan's Feet
ViaCU collects new athletic shoes for Samaritan's Feet from staff and members during August and September. Shoes are then distributed to children at the Grant County Boys and Girls Club on the National Day of Service, MLK Day.
ViaCU offers six $1,000 scholarships to members who are High School Seniors and have a cumulative High School GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Trunk or Treat
ViaCU participates in the themed, safe trick or treating event each year. The theme in 2013 was "Saturday Morning Matinee" so the Coindexter Kid's Club mascot, Piggy Banks, dressed as Miss Piggy and brought along her Muppet friends.
