The Annual Meeting format has evolved to be more business in nature and respectful of attendees’ time. As a result, the business meeting on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 12:00-12:30 pm will be held virtually.
It is the duty of the Nominating Committee to nominate at least one member for each vacancy on the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee. This year, there is three vacancies on the Board of Directors and one vacancy on the Supervisory Committee. Members serving on the Board or Supervisory Committee are volunteers.
The Nominating Committee has nominated the following for the Board of Directors:

Deleane Solomon
Chair (3 years)
Deleane is a retired teacher from Marion Community School after teaching for 39 years. She taught at Frances Slocum Elementary, McCulloch Middle School and Justice Thurgood Marshall Intermediate School. Deleane received her undergraduate degree and Master’s degree from Ball State University. Deleane has served on the Board of Directors since August 1993, and has held the position of Board Secretary, Vice Chair and is currently serving as Chair. One of her objectives in serving on the Board is to make decisions that maintain the financial soundness of the credit union and that keep it responsive to the needs of its member-owners.

Clyde Thornell III
Vice Chair (3 years)
Clyde retired in 2006 having taught 37 years of business education at Marion High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis) and his Master’s degree at Ball State University. Clyde has experience working with budgets, inventories and equipment as chairperson of the business department. He was active in the Marion Exchange Club for 44 years, a member of several business education associations and is a current member of the Grant County Retired Teachers Association. Clyde was elected to the Via Credit Union Board of Directors in 1993, and has held the positions of Secretary, Chairman, and is currently serving as Vice-Chair. He has been impressed with the relationship the credit union has with its members and felt that learning the inner workings of the credit union would help him promote it in a very positive way.

John Velasquez, HFA, MA
Secretary (3 years)
John was born and raised in Marion and is a graduate of Marion High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish and Health Science and a Master of Arts degree in Health Science from Ball State University. John has worked as a licensed Healthcare Facility Administrator (HFA) since 2002 and is currently working as a Regional Director of Operations for an Indiana based healthcare company. John enjoys volunteering with organizations such as the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at Ball State University and hosting a yearly Purple Martin Watch party at his house as a joint field trip with both the Mississinewa Audubon Club of Marion and Grant County and The Robert Cooper Audubon Society of Muncie and Delaware county. John currently lives in Hartford City with his wife Megan, twins Catalina and Juan, son Luis, and two loyal German Shepherds. Juan and Catalina are both Freshman at Indiana University- Bloomington and his son Luis is a Sophomore at Blackford High School.

Jerry Showalter
Committee Member (3 years)
Jerry retired in 2009 as an Associate Professor of Accounting and Business at Indiana Wesleyan University. He has over 40 years of teaching experience at IWU—with 35 years as head of the Business Department, which he founded in 1966. He received his undergraduate degree in business administration at Taylor University and Master’s degree in accounting at Ball State University. In 1978, he earned his CPA designation and operated Jerry E. Showalter, CPA, from 1978 through 1994. Additional experience includes acting controller at Davis Clinic, Marion Medical Arts, and Davis Medical Foundation; assistant controller at Nationwide Management; tax consultant for Wealth Management, Inc.; and product cost accountant at Bell Fibre Products. Jerry has served on the Supervisory Committee since 1998 and enjoys serving the credit union in this capacity. He is passionate about equipping young people with personal financial skills and educating anyone about wise financial planning.
Nominations for vacancies may also be made by petition.
Any member in good standing with the credit union, who has never been convicted of a crime involving dishonesty or breach of trust and who is at least 18 years old may serve on the Board or Supervisory Committee. To be nominated by petition, the candidate must obtain 500 Via Credit Union member signatures or 1% of the membership, whichever is less. Members must be 18 or older to sign a nominating petition.
Members must sign and print their names on the petition to enable membership verification. Original signatures must be received by the ViaCU Board Secretary by Monday, March 2, 2026. The petition must be accompanied by a short biography reflecting the candidate’s qualifications for service and a signed statement of willingness to serve. If there are nominees by petition, their names, along with those nominated by the Nominating Committee, will be posted at all branch locations on Saturday, March 7, 2026. If there are no petition nominees, there will be no posting. The vote to fill stated vacancies will take place at the Virtual Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Noon.

Members must pre-register to attend the virtual meeting by completing the form below, prior to Saturday, April 4, 2026. After membership is confirmed, instructions to join the virtual meeting will be sent to email provided by Wednesday, April 8.
